Job Summary
Rand Water, one of the world’s largest water utilities, is renowned for providing superior-quality potable water to 12 million people across South Africa's economic hub. Operating since 1903, Rand Water has consistently ensured uninterrupted water supply to a growing economy.
Faced with Johannesburg’s unique challenge of lacking a sustainable river or dam nearby, Rand Water has innovated to meet these demands and continues to drive skills development in line with the National Skills Development Strategy III (NSDSIII). This learnership programme is aimed at fostering employment and developing scarce and critical skills in the water sector.
Eligibility Requirements
To apply, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Must not be employed.
- Must not be enrolled in any academic programme or registered in another learnership.
- Must not possess a completed post-matric qualification.
(Note: Failure to disclose post-matric qualifications will lead to disqualification.) - Must have a Matric Certificate (Grade 12) with Mathematics and Physical Science, achieving a minimum Level 3 in all subjects.
- Must submit/attach an SAQA/NLRD verification report (available via the SAQA website).
- Must be a South African citizen with a valid SA ID.
- Must be aged between 18 and 35 years (in alignment with NSDSIII).

- SAQA/NLRD verification report.
- Updated CV.
Key Responsibilities
As a learnership participant, your duties will include:
- Supporting the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment facilities.
- Monitoring water and wastewater quality parameters.
- Conducting basic laboratory tests.
- Assisting with equipment and instrument maintenance.
- Participating in water and wastewater sampling and analysis.
- Attending scheduled classes as part of the programme.
- Engaging in discussions, activities, and assignments.
- Completing assessments and maintaining a practical logbook.
