LIMPOPO – Limpopo Premier, Dr. Phophi Ramathuba, has issued an urgent call for residents to remain vigilant as Cyclone Dikeledi moves closer to the coast of Mozambique. Although current reports indicate that the cyclone does not pose an immediate threat to South Africa, authorities are closely monitoring its path, as its proximity to Mozambique could lead to adverse weather conditions affecting areas along the Limpopo border.
The Premier emphasized the importance of being prepared for potential changes in weather patterns, particularly for communities in Limpopo that could experience heavy rainfall, strong winds, and possible flooding if the cyclone shifts direction. Local authorities are working with disaster management teams to ensure readiness in case the situation worsens.
Dr. Ramathuba reassured the public that South African meteorological experts and emergency response units are closely monitoring the situation, and residents will be kept informed about any updates or changes. She urged individuals in vulnerable areas to take necessary precautions, including securing property, staying informed through official channels, and avoiding unnecessary travel in case of sudden weather changes.
Limpopo authorities are also advising residents to check and prepare their emergency kits, which should include essential items such as water, non-perishable food, medical supplies, and flashlights, in case of power outages or other disruptions.
The Premier also encouraged communities to stay connected with local officials for updates and to report any signs of severe weather or flooding. Emergency numbers have been made available, and local disaster management teams are on high alert to respond promptly to any arising situations.
As Cyclone Dikeledi continues its path toward Mozambique, the situation remains fluid, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available. Dr. Ramathuba reiterated that staying informed and prepared is the best course of action to ensure the safety of all residents in the region.
